Sisi – Mythos and Realität

In 1998 the world commemorated one of the most impressive female figures in history: 100 years ago, on September 10, 1898, Austria’s Empress Elisabeth died in Geneva as a result of an assassination attempt.

“Sisi” as this extravagant, intelligent woman was – and is – fondly called by millions of people, was decades ahead of her time. Even though the imperial Schönbrunn Palace and Vienna’s elegant Hofburg were her home, the Empress of Austria always remained connected to all social classes.

This film shows her life, starting with the dreamlike wedding, all the important stages and the many wonderful places in which she lived. Her love for Hungary, her political commitment, as well as the tragic death of her son are dealt with. Due to her restlessness she undertook countless journeys. Her passion: riding. Equally legendary is her beauty cult. The film also sheds light on her own tragic end and the beginning of the “Sisi” myth…

Johann Strauss

Johann Strauss, the younger, born in 1825, died in 1899, over a hundred years ago.

He was the waltz king – in a Vienna that looked very similar to today’s – despite all the great changes.

In Austria not a day goes by without Johann Strauss. Every year begins with the New Year’s concert and ends with the Fledermaus.

No fashion or politics can stop this triumph.
His work has stayed alive – and always will be.

This film shows the life of the King of Waltz, the palaces where he was living and pictures of members of the Strauss Dynasty. It explains the circumstances in which he was living as well as Jean`s relationships with women. All this is accompanied by Strauss`s famous melodies, played by the “Wiener Johann Strauss Orchester”.

Monasteries and Abbeys in Austria

The monasteries and monasteries in Austria are unique in all of Europe, maybe even in the whole world.
The majority has been able to retain its institutional form over the centuries since its foundation. In this way, they also make a cultural and historical contribution to today’s world.

Centers of knowledge, art and science, which have always been centers, have often been able to maintain their existence unchanged. Responsible for this are on the one hand the various monastic orders themselves, but also the patronage of the rulers, which they have made autonomous through donations and endowments.

Even after the reforms of Joseph II, there are still more than 30 “living” monasteries in Austria. These include the monasteries of the following orders: Benedictines, Cistercians, Premonstratensians, Augustinians, Trappists and Franciscans.
